JOB DESCRIPTION - CENTRAL STERILE TECH / STERILE SUPPLY TECH (IN)

Job Summary:

The Central Sterile Tech/Sterile Supply Tech is responsible for decontamination, assembly of linen packs, operation of steam, EtO and other forms of sterilization as well as all monitoring processes. Maintain adequate inventory for assembly of instruments and equipment. Perform multiple tasks that assist in the daily operation of all units.

Qualifications:

Education: High School graduate or equivalent preferred.

Experience: One year full time experience as a Central Sterile tech

Certification: Current certification for Central Service by an accredited agency sch as IAHCSMM or National Certification for Surgical Technologist. Current CPR/BLS Certification

Duties and Responsibilities

The Central Sterile Tech is expected to perform duties in a safe and ethical manner within scope of his/her profession. The Central Sterile Tech should understand his/her own limitations, seeking advice and assistance when necessary. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Orders, restocks and decontaminate sterilization equipment and instruments.
  • Collects dirty equipment and instruments.
  • Sorts, loads and decontaminate equipment and instruments according to facilities’ procedures
  • Cleans, repackages and sterilizes instruments.
  • Assembles trays, basin sets, packages, instruments and equipment and prepares items for sterilization.
  • Decontaminates, restocks and assembles case carts and surgical trays.
  • Ensures specialty carts are stocked and ready for immediate use.
  • Perform quality control through routine testing and cleaning to assure sterilization equipment and instruments are functioning properly.
  • Insects equipment, instruments and packaging for cleanliness, defects and or malfunctions
  • Documents sterilization cycle
  • Labels products with sterilization date
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions:

  • Knowledge of sterilization supplies, equipment and instruments
  • Knowledge of organizing, containing and transporting items of varying compounds, textures and quantities
  • Knowledge of transporting and disposing of hazardous material and sharp objects according to facilities’ protocol
  • Knowledge of sterilization procedures
  • Knowledge of wrapping and repackaging sterile instruments
  • Frequently move/lift 30 pounds, depending on assignment requirements
  • Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling and reaching to prepare equipment and supplies.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination
  • Skill in following written instructions and performing multiple tasks
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Consistent attendance is required to assure that the client facilities’ needs and patient needs are met.
  • To comply with all client facilities’ policies, procedures and practices
  • To comply with all Curastat policies and to uphold our standards of excellence while on assignment at our client facilities.
