JOB DESCRIPTION - MAMMOGRAPHY TECH (GT)
Job Summary:
The Mammography Technician, under direct supervision, performs specialized examinations of the breast to help in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in women patients for our client facilities. Mammography Technician may perform screening exams or diagnostic exams.
Qualifications:
Education: Completion of a two year approved School of Radiologic Technology
Experience: One year full time experience as a Mammography Technician
Licensure: Valid state radiology registration as required by state law
Certification: Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology. Advanced certification in Mammography.

Duties and Responsibilities
- The Mammography Technician is expected to practice safe procedures and adheres to radiation safety measures under the supervision of the Radiology supervisor or the Radiologist. Specific duties may include but are not limited to:
- Complete patient education regarding the exam
- Promote privacy for the patient
- Promote comfort for the patient
- Perform diagnostic or screening mammogram as ordered
- Prepares for and assists the Radiologist in the completion of intricate mammography examinations, including breast biopsies.
- Produce high quality films for the radiologist to evaluate
- Complete appropriate documentation
- Perform quality control functions related to mammography
- Assist in compilation and maintenance of statistical data
- Follow infection control and safety guidelines
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology.
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy in mammography positioning and exposure technique.
- Serves as the primary liaison between patients and Radiologists and other members of the support team.
- Use professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Participates in continuing education and learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for continued competence
- Ability to work as a team member
- Skilled in the operation of Mammography equipment
- Attention to detail
- Basic understanding of computer technology
- Perform all duties using proper body mechanics.
- Frequently move/lift between 50-100 pounds, depending on assignment requirements
- Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling and reaching to prepare equipment, materials or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment
- Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination
- Ability to work in a stressful environment
- Ability to follow directions/instructions from his/her supervisor.
- Consistent attendance is required to assure that the client facilities’ needs and patient needs are met.
- To comply with all client facilities’ policies, procedures and practices
Working Conditions:
The Mammography Technician must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases and dusts. Frequent exposures to distressed patients, families or visitors.
