Job Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Technician performs a variety of tests to obtain the data necessary for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses. The Medical Laboratory Technician reports to the Laboratory Manager
Qualifications:
Education: Associates degree in clinical laboratory sciences from an accredited school of Clinical Laboratory Sciences as a Laboratory Technician.
Licensure: License as required by state law.
Experience: One year full time experience as a Laboratory Technician.
Certification: Current CPR/BLS Certification
Duties and Responsibilities
The Medical Laboratory Technician is expected to practice safe and ethical duties within his/her scope of practice. The Laboratory Technician should understand his/her own limitations, seeking advice and assistance when necessary. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Perform a variety of tests on body fluid and tissue samples. Types of tests include analyzing blood and urine and identifying organisms from the body.
- Utilize equipment that ranges from simple to complex.
- Utilize sophisticated laboratory equipment to look for bacteria, parasites and other microorganisms
- Analyze the chemical content of fluids
- Matching blood for transfusions
- Testing for drug levels in the blood to show how a patient is responding to treatment
- Phlebotomy may be required
- Confer with patient to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation.
- Utilize standard procedures t the maintenance of positive patient identification, record appropriate collection information of proper requisitions.
- Prepare, process, label and store patient specimens and samples according to facility procedures using standard techniques and equipment.
- Performs all duties promptly in a competent and caring manner
- Maintain good working relations and communication among patients/residents and all healthcare personnel
- Present a neat appearance and dress in compliance with the client facilities’ policies
- Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination
- Ability to work in a stressful environment
- Consistent attendance is required to assure that the client facilities’ needs and patient needs are met.

- To comply with all policies and to uphold our standards of excellence while on assignment at our client facilities.
Working Conditions:
The Medical Laboratory Technician must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases and dusts. There is also the possibility of physical injury/verbal abuse from an out of control patient and/or visitor. Frequent exposures to distressed patients, families or visitors.
