JOB DESCRIPTION - MRI TECHNOLOGIST (GT)

Job Summary:

The MRI Technologist, under direct supervision, Produces detailed tissue images for medical diagnosis by performing a variety of magnetic resonance imaging procedures.

Qualifications:

Education: Completion of a two year approved School of Radiologic Technology

Experience: One year full time experience as a MRI Technologist

Licensure: Valid state radiology registration as required by state law

Certification: Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology

Current CPR/BLS Certification, (MR) certification preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

The MRI Technologist is expected to practice safe procedures and adheres to radiation safety measures under the supervision of the Radiology supervisor or the Radiologist. Specific duties may include but are not limited to:

• Complete patient/family educations
• Assist patient in comfort measures
• Assisting Radiologist in administering medications
• Instructing and preparing patients for MRI examination
• Selects appropriate equipment
• Determines most suitable anatomical positions
• Shielding patients according to radiation safety procedures
• Operate MRI equipment to make films of designated portions of the body.
• May prepare and administer chemical mixtures for patient examinations
• Performs and records procedures
• Participates in patient scheduling
• Cleans and disinfects patient rooms
• Follow infection control and safety guidelines

Essential Functions:

• Demonstrate an understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology.
• Maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique.
• Serves as the primary liaison between patients and Radiologists and other members of the support team.
• Uses professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Participates in continuing education and learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for continued competence
• Ability to work as a team member
• Skilled in the operation MRI equipment
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and related positioning for accurate imaging
• Attention to detail
• Basic understanding of computer technology
• Perform all duties using proper body mechanics.
• Frequently move/lift between 50-100 pounds, depending on assignment requirements
• Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling and reaching to prepare equipment, materials or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment
• Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination
• Ability to work in a stressful environment
• Ability to follow directions/instructions from his/her supervisor.
• Consistent attendance is required to assure that the client facilities’ needs and patient needs are met.
• To comply with all client facilities’ policies, procedures and practices

Working Conditions:

The MRI Technologist must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases and dusts. Frequent exposures to distressed patients, families or visitors.
