JOB DESCRIPTION - RADIOLOGY TECH (GT)

Job Summary:
The Radiologic Technologist, under direct supervision, takes images of various portions of the body by operating stationary and portable x-ray equipment according to developmental factors and age

Qualifications:
Education: Completion of a two year approved School of Radiologic Technology
Experience: One year full time experience as a Radiological Technologist
Licensure: Valid state radiology registration as required by state law
Certification: Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology
Current BLS Certification

Duties and Responsibilities
The Radiologic Technologist is expected to practice safe procedures and adheres to radiation safety measures under the supervision of the Radiology supervisor or the Radiologist. Specific duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Assesses requisition for the appropriateness of the procedure
  • Asks patient to state name and verify name with ID bracelet and/or requisition
  • Explains the procedure
  • Performs radiologic procedures as assigned adhering to prescribed techniques. Use Lead Markers onall film
  • Prepares and administers contrast agents necessary for radiologic examinations of internal organs
  • Assesses and observes patient for adverse reactions during procedures
  • Prepares patient for procedures
  • Explains procedures, assists and transfers patient to table, positions patient’s body for accurate imagesand assists patient at end of procedure
  • Follow prescribed techniques in administering general and specific x-rays, adjusts equipment,determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time, arranges immobilization and supportdevices to obtain position of patient, adjust lead shields to protect unaffected parts of the patient’sbody, adjusts cone to direct concentration of rays on specific area and selects proper film.
  • Observes patient and equipment during procedures and reports unusual occurrences and recordspatient’s condition
  • Transports patients within department, to and from waiting area as required
  • Processes images/film in accordance to guidelines and photographic techniques
  • Performs quality control activities to ensure optimal quality radiographs
  • Performs mobile x-rays in patient’s rooms, emergency room, and operating room
  • Troubleshoots and reports equipment problems to supervisor
  • Prepares and maintains radiologic records, files and technical work sheets
  • Orders and stocks supplies
  • Cleans and disinfects patient rooms
  • Follow infection control and safety guidelines

  • Frequently move/lift between 50-100 pounds, depending on assignment requirements
  • Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling and reaching to prepare equipment, materials or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment
